This book describes Yogi Ashokananda's unique, down-to-earth approach to meditation - one with strong connections to ancient Indian traditions but that is also fully adapted to the demands of modern Western living. Using evidence from medical and scientific research, Yogi explains the importance of relaxation, and draws on the wisdom of tantra to guide the reader to understanding the energy we control within our body. Unlike other meditation techniques, Yogi's method starts with the body rather than the mind as the centre for meditation, since his emphasis is on embracing our human side as well as our higher self. Challenging the body physically and focusing attention on the lower chakras allows us to bridge the gap between our material and spiritual self, to heal any conflicts or splits arising from living in today's society and to explore all aspects of our personality. The link between the body and the emotions is scientifically well-established, and the exchange and union between the body and mind that takes place in Yogi's meditations is particularly effective for relaxation. By using breath control and simple arm movements to channel and direct energy flow, Yogi also demonstrates how to create perfect balance in the body and rid it of samskaras, the energetic residue of our emotional scars, which can make us lethargic, depressed, stressed and anxious. The benefits of distributing breath and energy evenly are felt at every level: the essence of the five elements within the body's organs is balanced; emotional and spiritual renewal and transformation occurs; self-awareness, vitality, clarity, and a sense of calm, balance and harmony are increased; and the digestive, cardiovascular and nervous systems are all positively affected. The Healing Power of Angels is a major and highly original addition to an increasingly popular publishing genre. The book will help readers heal themselves of every kind of stress and dysfunction by tapping into the healing powers of angels. Uniquely, the author presents angels in terms of an inner realm with a distinct spiritual hierarchy: nine levels of angels residing in the three levels of heaven. While based on traditional theology, this system offers a thoroughly effective way for the human mind to grasp the benevolent powers that angels can make available to all of us. The book explains how angelic forces work in the human energy system, especially the chakras, to benefit our personal development and spiritual evolution, and is aimed at everyone who is fascinated and moved by the notion of angels, or is interested in making new discoveries in the realm of the spirit. The Healing Power of Angels is immensely helpful to all healers and all those interested in understanding energy fields. The medititations, affirmations and prayers that punctuate the text provide a practical dimension for interactive work. There are also profound reflections that will change the way we think about ourselves and thus move us much closer to spiritual understanding. From the Trade Paperback edition.

The emphasis on the mind in meditation can be somewhat misleading: If we pay attention only to mental processes and overlook the experience of the body, we can remain stuck in our heads and not be able to break free of the involuntary thinking that we find so claustrophobic and toxic. This short, practical guide helps us embrace the fact of our embodiment—the experience of the sensations, movements, and gestures of the body—and to realize that mindfulness is the natural state of awareness of a body that has learned how to experience its feeling presence. Johnson takes us through the three primary principles of the posture of meditation: alignment, relaxation, and resilience. He devotes a large part of each chapter to specific practices to help the reader experience different aspects of physical presence. This book is of interest to meditators of all traditions—Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Jews, and others—as well as therapists, bodyworkers, and anyone interested in body-centered psychology and other natural modes of healing.

When it comes to meditation practices, the body is as important as the mind—a fact that may come as a surprise to the many people who regard meditation as a strictly mental activity. But, as Will Johnson shows, the physical aspect of the practice is far too often underemphasized. The alert-yet-relaxed sitting posture that is the common denominator of so many meditative techniques is a wonderful aid for clearing the mind and opening the heart, but it also works to activate the natural healing energies of both body and mind. The author offers guidance and exercises for working with the posture of meditation and advice on how to carry its benefits on into all the rest of life.

Twenty-five years ago renowned Tibetan Buddhist meditation master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche introduced teachings of the Shambhala warrior tradition—teachings that show how we could live as enlightened citizens and help create an advanced society based on fearlessness and non-aggression. Now Awake Mind, Open Heart makes these teachings accessible to the widest possible audience. Author Cynthia Kneen, who has conducted Shambhala Training workshops for more than twenty years, shows us how to develop personal power through direct, genuine experience and how to cultivate natural bravery, authenticity, and gentleness. Directed especially to readers new to Shambhala Buddhism, she also teaches how to develop genuine dignity by connecting to the strength and wisdom of the world as it is, and how to transform fear into fearlessness. This is an invaluable introduction to these ancient Tibetan teachings.

Easily accessible for beginnersIlluminating for those who want moreProfound and penetrating for seasoned practitioners Guru Rattana explains how the mind works, offers practical ways to direct your meditation practice, and give you the keys to open the door to your inner journey. The book is split into six parts: Our Spiritual JourneyTraining BasicsOur Relationship with the InfiniteOur Relationship with the SelfHow Do I Love?Kundalini Yoga Kriyas and Meditations Neutral Is Our Power Base In our usual asleep state, awareness is very limited and often monopolized by random thoughts or spaced out. There is a vast reality within that we are unaware of — our soul, the Infinite, inner peace, universal wisdom, and Divine Love. As multidimensional beings living in a multidimensional world and universe, we need more than our dualistic mind to experience and compute what is going on. We need our neutral mind, which has access to subtle information from our Soul and the Infinite. Neutral is not nothing. Neutral is the container for everything. Neutral is the ability to see and perceive reality the way it is, not the way we want it to be. Our neutral mind is our base. It is our observer station. But rather than being a passive instrument, it is an active witness to our thoughts, emotions, and reactions. Its job is to keep our faculties of consciousness and awareness active and our inner space receptive and expansive. Neutral Shifts Our Inner Reality As we learn to access and pay attention to the neutral channel, our mental, emotional, and physical states begin to shift and harmonize. In our neutral channel, we experience a dependable, stable place inside ourselves, where we can relax, let go, and trust. When we have access to the neutral channel, the dual mind can finally be relieved of the stress caused by thinking it has to figure everything out. In the neutral channel we can listen to the wise counsel of our intuition and hear our soul's voice direct our decisions. The neutral mind is our access route to higher love, peace, harmony, and oneness, all of which are not available in the dualistic mind. From the lighthouse of our neutral mind, we look at life differently. We discover that our identity and our reality extend beyond our current personalities into a non-physical presence and being. As we let go of mental ideas of who we are and how life should be, we begin to experience peace, satisfaction, and fulfillment. Basic Guidelines The following are the most basic guidelines to awaken and become aware of your neutral mind and inner space. Pay Attention with Sensory Faculties Our first task in meditation is to pay attention to ourselves (to our bodies and inside our skin) with our subtle sensory faculties of (1) awareness, (2) listening, and (3) feeling. We train ourselves to use our sensory faculties to focus inside instead of outside ourselves. Use these faculties to direct your mind to be present to what you are feeling in your body. Get in touch with your physical, mental, and emotional condition. Don't analyze or think about anything. Deeply listen, feel, and be non-verbally present to your body and breath.Look Inside Your Head Close your eyes. Look inside your head. Keep looking until you see a dark space. This space can be dark or light, but it is usually simply a dark cave-like space. Whatever you see (dark, space, nothing, empty, etc.) pay attention to that. Use your faculties of awareness and listening to tune in to the neutral space in your mind. The more you look, the more you will realize that this space is vast, pure, open, and totally available for you. Your primary and ongoing training then is to focus on the space inside your head. Do not get distracted by images, lights, or any other visuals that might appear. Look deeply beyond any thoughts or visuals.Listen Inside Your Head In addition to looking, engage your faculty of listening to listen inside your head. Listen between your ears, as though you have an inner ear inside your head. Listen deeply underneath any thoughts, until you hear the sound of silence. You will become aware of a "sound" that is always there. This is a constant infinite "sound of silence" that is very soothing and always in the background.Keep Coming Back to Neutral It is normal that your attention will be diverted by thoughts in the dual mind, which continues to emit thoughts. Allow the thoughts, but don't pay attention to them. Engage your faculty of listening to pay attention to the sound of silence. Don't get involved in thinking, evaluating, analyzing, or judging what you are doing. You will notice that when you engage your attention on rational mind activities, you pop out of your neutral channel.Dwell in "My Sacred Space" We quickly notice that our inner space is always there. We can always return to this place of peace, which is permanently in our psyche. The sound of silence is always present without discussion. This experience of permanency is comforting and reassuring. We begin to trust that we have an inner sanctuary to which we can always return. Think of it as my personal space. No one except me has access to my sacred space of peace. Our task then is to (1) access, (2) stay in, (3) deepen, and (4) train ourselves to operate from the vantage point of our sacred space in our body. As we do so, we can hold this inner space of stillness and place of peace and equanimity inside ourselves while we carry out our daily activities. The Power of Neutral will show you how you can train yourself to simply (without judgment or frustration) return your attention to your sacred neutral space.
