John McEnroe enjoyed tremendous success at all levels of tennis, and he owns 77 career singles titles, including 7 Grand Slams. He joined the circuit in 1978 and it took him only three years to attain the No. 1 ranking. The 1980 Wimbledon final, between McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, is considered by many tennis experts to be the best match ever, a five-set thriller which McEnroe avenged the following year for his first Wimbledon title. In doubles, McEnroe is recognised as the best player of all time. He was ranked No. 1 for a record 257 weeks and captured a total of 74 titles, including 8 Grand Slams. Still an active player, McEnroe is now an outstanding tennis commentator and broadcaster for the BBC and other national networks. This autobiography, his first, covers an awesome tennis career, marriage to movie star Tatum O'Neal and where arguably the greatest tennis player of all time goes from here. This is SERIOUS.

Ed Levine and the editors of food blog SeriousEats.com bring you the first Serious Eats book, a celebration of America’s favorite foods, from pizza to barbecue, tacos to sliders, doughnuts to egg sandwiches, and much more. Serious Eats crackles with the energy and conviction that has made the website the passionate, discerning authority on all things delicious since its inception in 2006. Are you a Serious Eater? 1. Do you plan your day around what you might eat? 2. When you are heading somewhere, anywhere, will you go out of your way to eat something delicious? 3. When you daydream, do you often find yourself thinking about food? 4. Do you live to eat, rather than eat to live? 5. Have you strained relationships with friends or family by dictating the food itinerary—changing everyone’s plans to try a potentially special burger or piece of pie? Ed Levine, whom Ruth Reichl calls the “missionary of the delicious,” and his SeriousEats.com editors present their unique take on iconic foods made and served around the country. From house-cured, hand-cut corned beef sandwiches at Jake’s in Milwaukee to fried-to-order doughnuts at Shipley’s Do-Nuts in Houston; from fresh clam pizza at Zuppardi’s Pizzeria in West Haven, Connecticut, to Green Eggs and Ham at Huckleberry Bakery and Café in Los Angeles, Serious Eats is a veritable map of some of the best food they have eaten nationwide. Covering fast food, family-run restaurants, food trucks, and four-star dining establishments, all with zero snobbery, there is plenty here for every food lover, from coast to coast and everywhere in between. Featuring 400 of the Serious Eats team’s greatest food finds and 50 all-new recipes, this is your must-read manual for the pursuit of a tasty life. You’ll learn not only where to go for the best grub, but also how to make the food you crave right in your own kitchen, with original recipes including Neapolitan Pizza (and dough), the Ultimate Sliders (which were invented in Kansas), Caramel Sticky Buns, Southern Fried Chicken, the classic Reuben, and Triple-Chocolate Adult Brownies. You’ll also hone your Serious Eater skills with tips that include signs of deliciousness, regional style guides (think pizza or barbecue), and Ed’s hypotheses—ranging from the Cuban sandwich theory to the Pizza Cognition Theory—on what makes a perfect bite. This book: Silly and serious is the first of 3 that I have in mind to start out with. This book contains a compilation of the poetry that I have written. It is only a small amount considering what is yet to be published, but it is a start. I titled my book Silly and Serious, because that is what it is. I have some silly, very imaginative and plain out right goofy- nonsensical poetry. Then I also have some deep, thoughtful, and symbolic poetry. I want to bring them together, so a reader can experience a mixture of emotions, instead of dwelling on a single emotion. The poetry is not limited to my newest material, this book, as well as any other I write will have poetry from several years ago, to some very recent material Ive decided to include. I have included the dates when I wrote my poetry as a chronological tool, because my writing style has transformed a bit and broadened over the years. It is a work of art, creativity, passion and love. It contains joy, sorrow, love, anguish, hope, and a vague sense of longing for something more. My ability to rhyme, keep rhythm, and produce a piece of literature are all things I really like, and that will be evident in this book. I also use my creative license when forming a stanza. I take into consideration what the poem will look like on the page, and how it will relay the message. Do not look for your standard format of poetry and stanza formation. In a way each poem will bear uniqueness to a certain extent, and begs for your ability to interpret arrangement in order to find the full meaning, like in my poem line for line. If you skim this poem, you will not understand it. You must do as the title says, and read each line as if it was its own independent sentence. Each stanza in this particular poem has a completed theme that comes together with all stanzas for the overall statement of the poem. Some of my poems tell fictional stories, my others have strait forward messages about life, but they are written in similes and metaphors, so they are not literally straightforward, but the underlying message is there. Please do not be intimidated, it is not hard to understand my poetry. If you are looking for poetry that is different from most out there, you have found it. I live inspired, I live for God. Thank you for your interest! Sincerely, Amber Shaw

DEAD SERIOUS combines case histories, narratives, and straight facts and asks youth and adults to consider the finality of suicide and ways in which they can help curb the alarming number of young people who take their own lives. DEAD SERIOUS presents ways of coping with such tragic losses and encourages readers to consider some of the major factors that may contribute to youth suicides. It alerts readers to warning signals which often precede suicide. Most important, DEAD SERIOUS tells young people and adults what to do and what not to do when dealing with a young person who is depressed and possibly suicidal. The chapter on active listening skills details specific listening techniques one can use when helping a friend or relative through a problem. An excellent book for use in courses in death education and peer counseling, DEAD SERIOUS takes suicide out of the hands of the statisticians and into the hearts and minds of young people and adults who are eager for accurate information and the specific skills to use when confronted with someone who is thinking about suicide. In response to a request by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), the Institute of Medicine proposed a study to examine definitions of serious or complex medical conditions and related issues. A seven-member committee was appointed to address these issues. Throughout the course of this study, the committee has been aware of the fact that the topic addressed by this report concerns one of the most critical issues confronting HCFA, health care plans and providers, and patients today. The Medicare+Choice regulations focus on the most vulnerable populations in need of medical care and other services-those with serious or complex medical conditions. Caring for these highly vulnerable populations poses a number of challenges. The committee believes, however, that the current state of clinical and research literature does not adequately address all of the challenges and issues relevant to the identification and care of these patients.

John McEnroe stunned the tennis elite when he came out of nowhere to make the Wimbledon semifinals at the age of eighteen—and just a few years later, he was ranked number one in the world. You Cannot Be Serious is McEnroe at his most personal, a no-holds-barred examination of Johnny Mac, the kid from Queens, and his “wild ride” through the world of professional tennis at a boom time when players were treated like rock stars. Here he candidly explores the roots of his famous on-court explosions; his ambivalence toward the sport that made him famous; his adventures (and misadventures) on the road; his views of colleagues from Connors to Borg to Lendl; his opinions of contemporary tennis—and his current roles as husband, father, senior tour player, and often-controversial commentator—in a “bracing new serve-and-volley autobiography” (The Boston Globe).
