How do we reconcile our need to express our emotions with our desire to protect others? Far too often we find ourselves trapped in this dilemma of expression versus repression. We fear that by expressing our true feelings, we will hurt and alienate those close to us. But by repressing our emotions—even in the benevolent guise of “self-control”—we only risk hurting ourselves. Osho, one of the most provocative and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time, provides here a practical and comprehensive approach to dealing with this conflict effectively. Incorporating new, never-before-published material, Emotional Wellness leads us to understand the roots of our emotions, to react to situations in a way that can teach us more about ourselves and others, and to respond to life’s inevitable ups and downs with far greater confidence and equilibrium. Discover: • The impact that fear, anger, and jealousy have on our lives • How emotions like guilt, insecurity, and fear are used to manipulate us • How to break out of unhealthy responses to strong emotions • How to transform destructive emotions into creative energy • The role of society and culture on our individual emotional styles Osho’s unique insight into the human mind and heart goes far beyond conventional psychology. He teaches us to experience our emotions fully and to deal with them creatively in order to achieve a richer, fuller life. From the Hardcover edition.

What is healing? What really determines it? How can we make it happen? It is increasingly clear that there is not just one single kind of medicine and that paths to healing flow through the integration of multiple pieces of knowledge and the combination of many perspectives. In light of the latest research into neurophysiology, psyche science and quantum physics, this book outlines the seven principles of the powerful interaction between psyche and body in healing processes, providing scientific answers to questions about the mechanisms which trigger it and identifying therapies that allow us to turn these internal switches on. This is demonstrated through reflections, examples, and real cases shared by the author, a psychiatrist and doctor who has completed several rigorous trainings but maintains an open mind and has been committed for more than 15 years to seek healing of serious illnesses in the psychosomatic unit by using therapeutic synergies that strengthen official care practices with innovative treatments, with her passionate work to painlessly repair suffering, with the patient, or rather the person, always and constantly at the centre.

The Egyptian civilization, which flourished along the banks of the Nile for about 3000 years, was one of the most extraordinary and enduring of the ancient world. Even today, after two thousand years since its setting, it continues to exert considerable charm. The Egyptians left many traces of their culture, thanks to the climate dry desert that has preserved over the centuries. The Sphinx and many pyramids, mummies, funerary masks, funerary decorations, the papyri, have thus been preserved from destruction, the common fate of many ancient remains. Egypt is in fact also known as the "gift of the Nile", because the flooding of the river deposited on the fields a layer of fertile silt, vital for the growth of crops. Already in prehistoric times, the first settlers learned to sow and plant their crops in the fields still covered by mud after the waters had receded. I collected, almost always abundant, they allowed that civilization to thrive and achieve a brilliance never known before. The ancient Egyptians called the fertile valley of the Nile kemet, "black earth", and themselves remet-en-kemet, "the people of the black earth", while the desert surrounding the town was said deshret, "red earth."

Sam and Mary were injured, Tom was nearly buried in a cave-in, and now the walkie-talkie was dead. Perhaps it had broken when he fell. Tom quickened his pace even though he had no idea where this tunnel would lead or what he might find. After what seemed forever, Tom came to an iron staircase that led upward 10-15 feet and ended at a concrete circle. Tom climbed the stairs, but stopped dead in his tracks. Directly in front of him was a skeleton dressed in tattered clothes, staring with an evil grin upon what had once been lips. Clasped in one hand was a piece of paper, and in the other was a pistol! Treasure!, the first in a series of books, is a story about Sam McCarthy and his friends who, while playing their favorite game, Numarian Spies, find a real adventure. Pretend spies, pretend maps, and pretend stories lead to real criminals, real maps, and real treasure. That treasure leads Sam, Tom, and Mary on a ten-year time travel adventure to stop the evil Harold Henderson from destroying the universe.

This strange story culminates in the 19th century labelling of anorexia nervosa, a condition which has since attracted a host of theories and explanations and a vast literature, the course of which a medical curiosityhas been transformed into a modern disease. In the history of psyhiatry this is a remarkable account, of great clinical ad historical importance, which will interest anyone concerned with the interaction of culture and the individual. One of the most influential figures in documentary and ethnographic filmmaking, Jean Rouch has made more than one hundred films in West Africa and France. In such acclaimed works as Jaguar, The Lion Hunters, and Cocorico, Monsieur Poulet, Rouch has explored racism, colonialism, African modernity, religious ritual, and music. He pioneered numerous film techniques and technologies, and in the process inspired generations of filmmakers, from New Wave directors, who emulated his cinema verite style, to today's documentarians. Cine-Ethnography is a long-overdue English-language resource that collects Rouch's key writings, interviews, and other materials that distill his thinking on filmmaking, ethnography, and his own career. Editor Steven Feld opens with a concise overview of Rouch's career, highlighting the themes found throughout his work. In the four essays that follow, Rouch discusses the ethnographic film as a genre, the history of African cinema, his experiences of filmmaking among the Songhay, and the intertwined histories of French colonialism, anthropology, and cinema. And in four interviews, Rouch thoughtfully reflects on each of his films, as well as his artistic, intellectual, and political concerns. Cine-Ethnography also contains an annotated transcript of Chronicle of a Summer--one of Rouch's most important works--along with commentary by the filmmakers, and concludes with a complete, annotated filmography and a bibliography. The most thorough resource on Rouch available in any language, Cine-Ethnography makes clear this remarkable and still vital filmmaker's major role in the history of documentary cinema.

A reinterpretation of biblical and Egyptian history that shows Moses and the Pharaoh Akhenaten to be one and the same. • Provides dramatic evidence from both archaeological and documentary sources. • A radical challenge to long-established beliefs on the origin of Semitic religion. During his reign, the Pharaoh Akhenaten was able to abolish the complex pantheon of the ancient Egyptian religion and replace it with a single god, the Aten, who had no image or form. Seizing on the striking similarities between the religious vision of this “heretic” pharaoh and the teachings of Moses, Sigmund Freud was the first to argue that Moses was in fact an Egyptian. Now Ahmed Osman, using recent archaeological discoveries and historical documents, contends that Akhenaten and Moses were one and the same man. In a stunning retelling of the Exodus story, Osman details the events of Moses/Akhenaten's life: how he was brought up by Israelite relatives, ruled Egypt for seventeen years, angered many of his subjects by replacing the traditional Egyptian pantheon with worship of the Aten, and was forced to abdicate the throne. Retreating to the Sinai with his Egyptian and Israelite supporters, he died out of the sight of his followers, presumably at the hands of Seti I, after an unsuccessful attempt to regain his throne. Osman reveals the Egyptian components in the monotheism preached by Moses as well as his use of Egyptian royal ritual and Egyptian religious expression. He shows that even the Ten Commandments betray the direct influence of Spell 125 in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Moses and Akhenaten provides a radical challenge to long-standing beliefs concerning the origin of Semitic religion and the puzzle of Akhenaten's deviation from ancient Egyptian tradition. In fact, if Osman's contentions are correct, many major Old Testament figures would be of Egyptian origin.

Since the 1840s, when Victorian England emerged into the modern era and industrial cities became the new cultural centers, regionalist literature has posited itself as an aesthetic alternative to nationalist culture. Yet what differentiates regionalism's claims of authenticity, derived from blood and soil, from those of nationalism? Through close readings and theoretical elaborations, Roberto M. Dainotto reveals the degree to which regionalism mimics nationalism in valorizing ethnic purity. He interprets regionalism not as a genre in the pastoral tradition but as a rhetorical trope, a way of reading in which regionalism figures as the "other" against a historical process that disrupts the organic wholeness of place. Dainotto traces the genealogy of the idea of place in literature, examining European texts from Victorian England to Fascist Italy. He finds, for example, in Thomas Hardy's The Return of the Native a virtual thesaurus of regionalist commonplaces. Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South mediates between Madame de Stal's privileging of the sophisticated north and Jean-Jacques Rousseau's nostalgia for the naive south. The regionalism of the Sicilian philosopher Giovanni Gentile exhibits a deep longing for the humanities as they define Italy and Western culture. Dainotto concludes with a close look at the rhetoric of Nazism and Fascism, dramatizing the convergence of regionalist aesthetics and nationalist ideology in Italy and Germany between the two World Wars.
